About Manchester Libraries

We offer a wide range of services for children, young people, and their carers at libraries across the city. All our libraries have books for children, including board books and picture books for the very young, story and information books, and graphic novels for teenagers. Sharing books from an early age feeds the imagination, encourages a love of reading, and forms the foundation of literacy.  Find out more about Read Manchester.

Every year, we encourage children of all ages to take part in the Summer Reading Challenge, a national literacy scheme in the UK designed to inspire children aged 4–11 to read for pleasure during the summer holidays. It’s run by The Reading Agency in partnership with public libraries across the country, and it’s completely free to join—either online or at your local library.  Learn more about the Summer Reading Challenge.
