Bolton Library, Museum, Art Gallery and Aquarium has something for everyone!


Visit our Ancient Egypt Gallery to see fascinating artefacts, learn about Bolton’s rich heritage or meander your way through our collection of art. Learn about creatures from all over the world and don’t forget to say hello to our dinosaur friend on your way in! We are also home to Greater Manchester’s only public aquarium.


Bolton Central Library was redeveloped and re-opened in 2024 with an expanded children’s library, full activities and events programme and an emphasis on reading, creativity and digital inclusion. Our nine other libraries across Bolton remain to be the anchors in the communities, and also offer a wide range of service, support, activities and events.


Bolton Library Theatre is a series of family fun theatre performances. It takes place across our 10 libraries and Smithills Hall and encourages children and families to discover stories through engaging theatre and storytelling.
