CBeebies’ star Ben Faulks (Mr Bloom’s Nursery) and CBBC actress Victoria Cook  (DNN, Wave) are set to launch the Big Imaginations Children’s Theatre Festival later this month, the first ever of its kind in the North West region.

Featuring 150 productions, across 28 venues in the North West, the Big Imaginations Festival is a celebration of brilliant children’s theatre. From the classic showdown between the Hare and the Tortoise and a reimagining of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, to the world’s first projection mapped pop-up book and the heart-warming tale of the Elephant Bridesmaid, the festival will showcase quality children’s theatre and fire the imaginations of a wide range of children, from toddling two-year olds to sophisticated pre-teens.

The Festival will start on 18th October when Ben Faulks (a former theatre and street theatre artist) and comedienne Victoria Cook will meet competition winners from around the region who have won special golden and diamond tickets to the Festival.  The Festival programme also kicks off in style on that on that date with an electrifying performance of I, Malvolio by Tim Crouch at Lancaster’s Live at LICA and a heart-warming showing of Theatre Hulaboloo and Theatre Lolo’s enchanting Luna at Goodwill Hall, Faddiley.

Says Ben Faulks: “It’s a real pleasure to be launching the Big Imaginations Children’s Theatre Festival and taking up the role of patron of Z-arts. Theatre is an essential part of my work and the original starting point for Mr Bloom’s Nursery.  It’s massively important that in the North West we get behind Big Imaginations and all the local venues so that we can keep attracting brilliant theatre to the region and keep the medium alive and magical for today’s children”.

Liz O’Neill, CEO Z-arts, a leading member of the Big Imaginations consortium says: “We are thrilled that Ben and Victoria have agreed to help up launch this very special event.  They both have theatre backgrounds and realise how important it is to get children of all ages involved in the arts.  We hope their involvement will inspire families to check out the festival and try something a little bit different!”

The Big Imaginations Children’s Theatre Festival is part of the first nationwide Family Arts Festival, joining leading arts venues and institutions programming events to entertain family audiences. The Family Arts Festival is the first UK-wide festival including theatre, dance, music and visual arts events designed to increase family participation in the arts and building on the momentum of the London 2012 Festival and Cultural Olympiad.  For more information go to
